Derrie Lizi originally comes from Malawi but has lived in the United Kingdom for over 35 years. She is a registered nurse/midwife by background and has had a varied career both in Malawi and the UK. She has worked in various hospitals in Malawi for 7 years before embarking on an academic career which lasted 8 years with the University of Malawi at Kamuzu College of Nursing. She has now retired from an Operational Manager’s post in a National Health Service hospital which she held for 16 years. Before this, she held a variety of ward-based careers.
Gloria Morrison came to England to study 50 years ago. After living in Cambridge, Stratford on Avon, and Liverpool she went with her husband to Panama where she lived for 14 years. She also worked for the British Council in Mexico. She came back to England in 1984 and since then has lived in Chester where she has been a volunteer for Save the Children, both as a member of the Branch Committee and working in the shop.
Jean Gorman is the Secretary and Business Advisor for Chifundo UK. Jean has spent over 20 years as a senior manager in industry, initially working for a multi-national
corporation in Europe and the USA before becoming a Management Consultant responsible for the management of strategic change programmes in the UK. Working across many sectors including
public sector, manufacturing, finance and construction she has been lucky enough to be involved with the introduction of innovative technology to bring about step changes in business operations
Lynn Walton taught Mathematics and was Head of Mathematics in a large comprehensive school in Cheshire for 10 years. Since leaving teaching Lynn has been able to renew her interest in sewing and became a member of the Sewing Group. She has an interest in Mission across the world and is the Treasurer of Chifundo UK. Lynn has visited Malawi on two occasions to help Chanasa. She is married to Nick, who runs the website for Chifundo and Chanasa.
Susan Flynn is Founder of Chifundo in the UK and of Chanasa in Malawi (both established in 2014). She spent 20 years in Social Services followed by 17 years in the ministry of the United Reformed Church. Since retiring 3 year ago Susan has studied Fashion and has become very interested in Sustainable Fashion. Susan is Co-Founder of COMPASS (Counselling on Merseyside, Pastoral and Supporting Service), Founder of the Tree of Life (a church and community social enterprise in Manchester) and helped to found Vintage Blacon (a church and community project in Chester). She has visited Malawi since 2005 through a URC Synod Global Partnership (Synod chair) and for many years visited twice a year for 3 weeks at a time.
