Each year women from the sewing groups undertake tailoring courses at the Beehive Tailoring School in Chilomoni, Blantyre. There are three courses on offer the shortest being the one-term Informal Course, then a one year Certificate course and the most advance being the one year Diploma course which is full time and has a formal graduation at the end. The skills they teach vary and the Diploma course includes designing and cutting patterns. The Beehive Tailoring School is itself an NGO (Non-government organisation) which has operates in several different fields (childcare, tailoring, IT, books and bicycles) to help the people of Blantyre.
The pictures below show the students who have taken courses in the past. Yvonne (from Soche East group) and Chifundo (from Chilomoni group) are taking the Certificate course. Dene from Ndirande has completed the Informal Course and Esther, from Ndirande is starting the Informal course.
These courses help the women to improve their sewing skills when making the Fairtrade products from African fabric and recysced denim.
