The Rock Ferry URC Fair Trade Evening event took place on Saturday 28 February 2015. The evening began with a short talk about Fair Trade which was followed by a presentation about Chifundo UK and Chanasa by Susan Flynn. Five members of the Chifundo Sewing Group then modelled clothing and accessories.
The clothing was all made from up cycling charity shop items by embellishing them with chitenge (African fabric) or Tanzanian waxed cotton. The accessories such as bags, necklaces, and bangles had mostly been made in Malawi and again used African fabrics. After the fashion show there was the opportunity to purchase items from the Chifundo and Fairtrade stall. Refreshments were served and a Fair Trade quiz finished off a very enjoyable evening. Thanks go to all those who organised and took part in the evening. £108 was taken on the stall. This together with a £50 donation from Rock Ferry URC Church has made a very worthwhile contribution of £ 158 to the work of Chifundo and Chanasa.
